Background
I’ve played mahjong in general since uni days back around 20 years ago. I have played different types of Mahjong such as Malaysian mahjong, Changshu Mahjong, Sichuan Mahjong (my wife is from china - hence why all the chinese rules) and of course riichi mahjong.
I did play riichi back in the days, but I revisited playing riichi around 2018 (when M league becoming popular in Japan). When I revisited playing riichi mahjong, it just clicked really well and I felt in love with it. From the beauty of etiquette (such as, how the discards are all lined properly - with all the audit trails), the beauty of the defensive play (as most mahjong that I played previously doesn’t involve much with defending) and of course the fun competitiveness of the riichi mahjong.
Since then I have been playing almost everyday - at least 2-3 hanchans a day and it inspired me to be a pro when the WRPM opportunity arose.
I am currently the commitee member of two different Riichi Mahjong groups here in Australia, as I wanted to involve myself in growing the community and spread the game of the riichi mahjong in Australia.
